Protocols: nx NX

General Information

NX is a remote desktop protocol developped by nomachine.com.
It dramatically improves the performance of the X display protocol by compressing and proxying messages.
Click here to see how it compares to the other protocols.
The core NX tools are available under open-source licenses. (GPL)
Since NX uses the X Window system, running the NX server requires an operating system supporting X servers, therefore it does not run on Microsoft Windows. That does not preclude you from using the client on those systems and connecting to NX sessions running somewhere else.

Features

Window Switch sessions using NX support the following features:
  • Seamless mode
  • Shadowing of other VNC or NX sessions
  • Shadowing of existing desktops, also known as "desktop sharing"
  • Starting, suspending and resuming of sessions is fully supported
Note: You only need the core tools nxagent and nxproxy, none of the other components are used.
